The basic expositions consisting of the materials gathered before the Revolution of 1917 were opened to the public in 1923. In 1934 the Ethnographic Museum started to function as an independent one. Later its collections were enlarged, and after the World War II the museum got its modern name.

This legendary church os placed on Griboedov's Canal. It has stunning multi-colored domes in traditional russian manner. The church was originally built in memory of the assassination of Alexander II, killed by a bomb in 1881 on the exact spot the cathedral stands today.

Nowdays, with it's own garden and fountain, Kazansky Cathedral become not only the Orthodox Church and Museum of Religion. On the opposite site, near to Griboedov's Canal Station, it is also well known as beautiful meeting point.
It's a master-piece of architecture in the middle of Nevsky avenue.
